"Bradfield - a history of any Essex village":-

  • looks in some detail at the fascinating Domesday records for the village after the Norman Conquest,

  • traces the development of the village in medieval times looking at the interesting lives of successive family "dynasties" of lords of the manor,

  • takes a detailed "walk around the village" in 1881, using census information and OS maps, and

  • concludes with some of the significant events that affected village life in the 20th century and takes a brief glimpse at life in Bradfield today.

This book will not only appeal to Bradfield people but also to anyone interested in rural social history.

"St Lawrence, Bradfield - a history of an Essex church":-

Tells the story of the church, from its earliest origins, through the centuries and up to the present day. The book uncovers the many changes that have been made to the church building over the years and looks at the lives of some of its patrons and vicars.

As well as this descriptive history of St Lawrence, the book also outlines how Christianity came to England, how it developed over the centuries and how changes in belief and religious practices would, at times, have dramatically affected church services and church design. This book will not only give the reader an understanding of the church as a building, but also of its impact on village life over the centuries.

"Bradfield's World War I Heroes":-

During World War I, from 1914 to 1918, a total of 156 Bradfield men served in the armed forces and fought for their country. As everyone knows, the loss of life in the First World War was very high and, of the serving Bradfield men, 22 died either in action or from their wounds or, in two cases, from tragic accidents. Most served in Essex and a number of different regiments, but some fought with the navy.

In this book the authors provide short biographies of the 22 Bradfield servicemen who died during what came to be known as “The Great War”
